Debossing (Recessed Printing)
Debossing is typically used on cards or invitations, for pressing company logos or state coats of arms, giving the printed piece a tactile dimension.
Debossing is a good way to give your printed materials a tactile dimension. If you want the debossing not to show through on the other side, we recommend using paper with a weight over 500 gsm, but we still cannot guarantee this completely.
Historically, this originated from the use of seals in document processing. To this day, many notaries use this technique when certifying notarial documents.
For debossing, a metal die needs to be prepared in advance. Depending on the size, making metal dies costs 100-400€+VAT. This means that for such orders, the need for repeat orders is important; otherwise, the order becomes absurdly expensive for a one-time use.
Another difference is whether the pressing is done inward (down) or upward from below. Pressing upward adds another 30% to the price because a counter-die is required in the same way.
