Soft Touch Lamination
Soft Touch lamination has been the hit product in printing for recent years. It's a two-in-one solution: laminating provides both a protected surface and a special tactile experience.
What is Soft Touch Lamination?
Soft Touch is actually a trademark of a specific lamination company, whose name best characterizes the surface of this laminate. Different laminate manufacturers have different trademarks for similar products, such as Sense.
The surface of Soft Touch lamination could be described as feeling like touching a peach. Similar laminates from different manufacturers have varying surface treatments, with some having a more rubbery touch.
This lamination is currently one of the most popular finishes—nearly one in three product packages aimed at women and magazine covers are finished with Soft Touch lamination. It's often enhanced with various printing effects such as UV spot varnish (except for uncoated paper UV spot varnish), 3D varnish, or i-Foil.
A specialized laminate is available for digital prints, where the inks are highly reactive and often develop a waxy surface layer to which standard laminate adheres less effectively. Digital lamination features a stronger adhesive layer specifically for this purpose.
