Embossing

Embossing is typically used on cards, invitations, and packaging. Additionally, on medical packaging (as Braille for the visually impaired).

Historically, embossing has been one of the only possible ways for the visually impaired to both read and convey images. That's why this method is also called 'blind printing'.

For embossing, a metal die needs to be prepared in advance. Depending on the size, making metal dies costs 100-400€+VAT. This means that for such orders, the need for repeat orders is important; otherwise, the order becomes absurdly expensive for a one-time use.

Another difference is whether the pressing is done inward (down) or upward from below. Pressing upward adds another 30% to the price because a counter-die is required in the same way.
